Fish Tank

The first talk focused on “Launching your own Business: Opportunities, Risks, Support Networks”. MTEC MSc Alumnus Peter Stein, Co-founder and VP R&D AVA AG, illustrated his personal development into a serial entrepreneur. Dr. Nicola Blum (Programme Director, Impact Hub Zurich) provided insights into Zurich’s’ vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem, the buzzing Impact Hub and her own practice-based course at D-MTEC (Sustainability Start-up Seminar). Javier Bilbao, a second year MTEC MSc Student and co-founder of Velohub AG shared his lessons learnt on participating simultaneously in the full-time Master Programme and developing a technology-driven start-up for cycling components. The attendees gained addition valuable insights about the annual De Vigier Entrepreneurship Awards from Regula Buob (MD, De Vigier Foundation for Entrepreneurship). The foundation has developed into a support network with very stringent screening, coaching and support processes, and has developed a reputation of being the most prestigious Swiss Entrepreneurship Competition. The talk was moderated by Prof. Bart Clarysse from the Center  for Entrepreneurship and Corporate Innovation at D-MTEC, who also contributed with his expert knowledge by comparing the Zurich entrepreneurial ecosystem with London.

Upcoming talks are scheduled with representatives from Buhler Group, Ergon AG, Hasler Rail and SwissRe.

The MTEC careers talks provide co-creative information exchange sessions on career development options for MTEC MSc, MAS and PhD students. Rather than being recruitment centred the department aim to illustrate the diversity of opportunities for ETH graduates in terms of career approaches.
