Best Dissertation Award 2017 for Ingo Becker
MTEC researcher Dr. Ingo Becker’s dissertation received the “Wissenschaftspreis” awarded by the EHI Stiftung and GS1 Germany. Congratulations!
Dr. Ingo Becker received the prize for his doctoral thesis entitled „Three Essays based on Clickstream Data: Analysing, Understanding and Managing Online Customer Behavior“. During his doctoral studies, he investigated the relationship between surfing and buying behaviour of customers and identified the extent to which each channel contributes to the success of an online retailer. In addition, he studied the relevance of the time interval between two or more online clicks and how this can be translated into purchase probabilities and finally he evaluated the channel- and taxonomy preferences of internet users.
His thesis was supervised by Professor Florian von Wangenheim of the Chair of Technology Marketing at D-MTEC. “Ingo Becker has strived from the outset to give equal weight to high scientific standards as well as to practical applicability”, von Wangenheim says and continues “He has thus chosen a difficult path. All the more remarkable is that he succeeded in both fields!” Currently Dr. Ingo Becker is working as a consultant at McKinsey Germany.
The "EHI Wissenschaftspreis" is awarded annually to encourage researchers to scientifically address topics of relevance for the trading and retail sector and to promote cooperation between academia and the private sector. The awarded studies are convincing in terms of their business relevance and potential for innovation.
